97 Camry 112k miles Brake Squeal?

Default 97 Camry 112k miles Brake Squeal?
very recently purchased car, brakes seems fine, except get a squeal when i apply brakes ONLY when backing up, not when going forward. Car passed state inspection 2 weeks ago, which includes brake pads. Does this sound like something serious that requires immediate attention?

I suspect you hear the sound from the rear? If so it could be the shoes scrapping the drums. Either way, take it to a mechanic to check it out. (a good one, not a ripoff place like Midas or any of the big chain brake places)















It is better to catch it now than have to replace the calipers if it cuts into them.

If the brakes seem to stop the vehicle OK you may just have brake dust build up in the rear if you have drums instead of rotors. If you have disc brakes in the rear it may just be cheap hard brake pads. If the brake pad material gets to about 1/8th inch thick (4mm) get a brake job.
