What causes a rav 4 to drop in power and the rpm indicator to go up high past 2 thousand

Default What causes a rav 4 to drop in power and the rpm indicator to go up high past 2 thousand
and 50 rpms and the e? Engine to rev up slightly for a short period of time and also where the car feels sluggish once it is given gas like from starting off at a light? Also what does a solenoid do exactly and can it play a part in the feel that the car looses power or like when someone gets high and than crashes with a low. The engine does not heat up the only like that comes on is the Engine light why? I am not very mechanical so someone with knowledge of cars.















What does a repair or possible repairs cost to replace I assume the solenoid? Everything else runs fine I do not know!!

sounds like the transmission is slipping, bands might need adjusting.

Well you don't really give enough information so I will make some assumptions. First of all I will assume you have an automatic since you are talking about solenoids and second I will assume you have had someone reading the codes causing the check engine light to be on. If your transmission has a bad shift solenoid it will do the kind of things you are talking about. Replacing the solenoid will not be expensive so far as transmission repairs go, a few hundred dollars.
