Default What do you think I should get?
I am 15 turning 16 soon, and I am getting my learner's permit. I would really like a small truck and I am interested in getting a Toyota Pickup 1985+ or a Nissan Hardbody. I like American trucks too, so you could suggest some of those. The only thing is I am just learning now how to drive an automatic and I think the Nissan and Toyota pickups are manuals right? Also, I heard that the Toyota Pickups are prone to rusting. I would really like one though, because I know how reliable they are. Is there automatic versions, and would a Toyota Pickup or Nissan Hardbody be a good first truck?

There are automatics in the earlier models but they are fairly rare in the Toyotas up until about '95 when the Tacoma came out.































Unless you are talking about 4Runners in which case the 3rd Gen or 90-95 had a lot of Automatics.































I can't speak for the Nissans though.































They aren't anymore prone to rusting than any other Truck from that era. It all depends on where you live and how well it was taken care of. If you live by the Sea everything will rust faster than if you live in Arizona.































The Toyota and Nissan are smaller and will get better Gas Milage, but hold their value better so they'll be more expensive. The GMC, Chevy's and Fords will be cheaper and haul more. But will be gas hogs.































Honestly any one of them would be good first cars. All are cheap and easy to maintain and if taken care of can all last a long time.
