Default Is there any difference in the way to gauge the fuel efficiency for Toyota Prius?
I'm making researches into rhetorics in English advertisements. In the process, I found the nominal fuel efficiency rate for 2006 Prius in Poland and that in Japan are different. I wonder how this discrepancy came about.

higher octane in europe compared of other places so it burns less fuel in europe

It's probably the difference in emissions standards. The less stringent standards means more fuel burn, and therefore theoretically better mileage.

The testing standards are totally different between the various countries. Also depending on where you live, if you're look at mpg (rather than l/100 km) the gallons are not the same size.































As near as I can tell from postings in the Yahoo Prius groups, the Prius gets the same fuel economy when driven in the same conditions regardless of country. Only the ratings are changed to confuse the public.
