You can take your alternator to you local rebuilder. They should have a test bench to test it. I would start with the easy stuff though first. Since you were messing with the batter connection, check and make sure they are all clean and tight. No corrosion, you want to see shinny metal. You may think this is a smart ass answer but you wouldn't believe how many people come into our shop complaining about their alternator and test fine. They bring their cars to us and all we have to do is use a little elbow grease on the battery terminals and Wa-La!
