What do you need to replace the Toyota Camry 2000 audio speakers?

We took the Camry to be checked at an auto dealer (not Toyota due to their costs) to see why our front speakers were not working. They told us that the front big ones still functioned, but the little ones on the door didn't. They told us that we should keep an eye out for a sale at any store, purchase the speakers then bring it in, and that he can't just replace the front audio system, it has to be the whole car...

I think I might bring in this car to a Toyota dealer, but first...Does anyone know what kind of speakers we need, what is a good store to look at? In fact, any information at all would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The front uses 6 3/4 sized speakers, and I think adapters are available to fit a 6 1/2 size speaker in there. I can't remember whether or not the 2000 model has a separate tweeter in the pillar next to the mirrors, but the older ones do (including my '97 LE), so yours is probably no different. The rear should be 6x9 sized speakers. I'm assuming you just want to replace speakers and not add amps or aftermarket decks or anything like that. Rear speakers are often responsible for the low notes if you don't have a subwoofer, so you'll want your rear speakers to be on the stiff side. Polypropylene is the most common material used for the woofer and many companies mix it with metals like aluminum to increase overall response. Make sure it has a rubber surrond. Since your factory stereo does not provide a lot of power to the speakers, you will want speakers with really high sensitivity ratings (higher ratings mean it plays louder with the power it receives).
