Default Why is my Toyota Solara jerking when I drive?
I have a 2005 toyota Solara and I take great care of my car. I want my car to last me as long as it can (without a car payment). However, recently when I drive it, it's been acting weird. It seems that when I have my foot on the gas, it jerks almost as if someone has a string tied to the back of my car and is pulling on it every now and then. I don't know what this is or how to even begin to explain it to the shop (I have very bad luck with car shops). Any ideas?

Your car is losing power and acceleration. It may need a tune up--new plugs etc if the mileage is high. However it IS a 2005 and these have many recall and electrical problems. I had a Solara also, sludge in engine even with oil and filter changes every three months religiously. Electrical failures up the gazoo, plastic parts discolored and fell off car. I dumped it for a Ford...omg...so much better than the Toyota. Good luck. fixing toyotas today is like doing crossward puzzles. Just be glad that is is not one of the 270,000 Toyotas recalled worldwide-- TODAY....Faulty engines in Lexus, and admitted by Toyota. Good luck. Is the check engine light on? If you are having a misfire it would be on. I am thinking that you may have a bad coil from your description of the symptoms. It is easy to diagnose but you have to be able to read the codes. If you have a code P0302, it means cylinder number 2 is missing. Swap the coil in a cylinder with such a code with a one that has no code. If there is no P0304, which would be cylinder number 4, swap those 2. Clear the codes and if you now have P0304 and not P0302 the coil is bad for certain. If you have a 6 cylinder engine and the misfire is on the rear bank of cylinders, this is easier said than done.
