98 toyota camry electrical problem?

my camry's dashboard light shut off while driving, short circuited i guess, as well as the rear driving and break lights and now i cant even change the gear shift without pressing the unlock button. none of them work. so far ive checked the fuses in the car but they all seem fine. any help on this would be great. or if you know what the big blocks on the fuse box are for or how to check them would be great knowledge.

First of all you need to stop driving a car without brake and tail lights until it is fixed! You probably do have blown brake light and parking light fuses. The "big blocks" in the fuse box are relays. The tail and brake light fuses are in the fuse block on the lower left side of the dash. Fuses do not blow for no reason. If the problem is fuses you have a short somewhere. I would look at the wire harness by the left trunk hinge for damage from the hinge and if that is OK I would look at the individual brake/tail light socket assemblies for shorts next. The reason you cannot get your car into gear is that it wants to see the brake light signal to let you shift. Fix the lights and that should be fixed too.
