What all can be wrong if the engine light comes on in a 1996 Toyota camry?

Default What all can be wrong if the engine light comes on in a 1996 Toyota camry?
I went to Auto-zone to get it checked and they said that they could not hook up their device to my car because the plug did not match. My muffler needs to be replaced could this be the problem? The car is not acting any different it runs very well.















Dont really care about how much it cost to repair cuz this car has almost 200 thousand miles on it and i have only had to do the basic up keep nothing major has gone wrong with it ever so I think that is good. I will buy another when this one stops running. lol

make sure you have checked the basics first, like your oil. on those cars usually the o2 sensor will go bad and throw the code, if you have a lot of miles this may be the case. its odd they couldnt connect, you should try another parts house with a scanner and get the code.
