@kyyrilteryn: In its independent research, Toyota has found a number of causes of unintended acceleration, ONE of which happens to be "pedal misapplication.Toyota said "We have also confirmed several different causes for unintended acceleration reports including pedal entrapment by floor mats, pedal misapplication and normal vehicle functions such as engine idle up for cold start or air conditioning loads" Driver error It is not the cause of all, and there certainly is a reason Toyota has a higher rate of unintended acceleration than other automakers. Yes, there was a breaking news headline that claimed the reason was driver error, but the article (which I know was in the Wall Street Journal, maybe others) was the information was either not correctly sourced or presented. The NHTSA has not released their findings, so that led to allegations that Toyota planted the article, which they deny. Toyota has admitted to faults, so I trust they did not plant an article countering that. It seems more than likely that someone did not have their sources/facts straight before publishing the article.
And it's not only in the U.S. Toyota has recalled cars in Japan, China and Europe for the same issue.
