do you need a turbo to install a BOV?

Default do you need a turbo to install a BOV?
i want to buy a blow off valve.. do i need a turbo with that??? if yes can the bov go on a supercharged car? or does it have to be turbo??? ANY GAUGES WITH THAT?? does it raise hp??

Turbo or supercharged cars can have one.















It doesn't raise hp... it makes noise.































All turbocharged or supercharged cars have them, they're just usually routed back into the intake system so they're not so obnoxiously loud. (which they are). If it didn't have a blow off, pop off, or pressure release valve, it would let in an unlimited amount of boost an explode itself, or at very least cause a serious lean condition.































Don't waste your time and money... Keep on enjoying your car as it is... if anything put a sweet intake system on it if you haven't already... that would be worth while.

it does need to be turbo, but there is this little cap you can buy for your exhaust that can make it sound like one

Yes.































BOV stands for Blow Off Valve.































It's only for Turbos.































It Blows off the extra pressure in the intake when you shift. Otherwise all that extra pressure in your intake from the Turbo would blow it off your car.































Superchargers don't use them because they are belt driven/direct drive and the amount of boost they make is directly proportional to the RPM's of the engine. Whereas Turbos are governed by Valves and how much exhaust is flowing.

Turbos and centrifugal superchargers both can run blow off valves.
