if you get the 5-speed, it'll be decently quick but not really fast. if you get the automatic, expect it to be slow. any sporty 4-cylinder car with front wheel drive is going to be the same way, you need a bigger engine if you actually want a fast car. as for reliability, I'd say yes considering Toyota's history. the only other similar cars I would recommend would be the Acura Integra, Acura RSX, Honda Civic Si, or the Chevy Cobalt SS. all of which will be just as reliable, and a lot faster.
