Does having the trunk window down reduce wind drag?

Default Does having the trunk window down reduce wind drag?
I usually drive with all 4 windows down around town but know that this prolly creates a lotta wind drag at higher speeds. Well, I'm trying to boost up my mpg and my 4runner comes with a power rear window, so I'm wondering if I lower that as well, will the drag be negated?

it will be lowered, but not completely negated. The general rule is to keep windows down if you're city driving (45mph or under) and turn on the ac above that and for freeways. Windows down above 45 or 50mph will suck more gas than just turning your ac on. And AC on under 45mph uses more gas than windows down.

If you roll up all the windows the drag will be reduced.































You create a lot of turbulence with the windows rolled down. The Air flows more smoothly over the SUV than through it.

It will increase the drag and maybe kill you.































BUT most manufactures with good reputations (This doesn't include Toyota) don't have that feature because carbon monoxide from the exhaust will come in the window.

Opening windows increases drag, it does not reduce it so your fuel consumption will increase.















now. what will improve it is switching off the air conditioning as this does suck power out of the engine and makes fuel consumption. what is the point of having it if you don't use it.















all windows closed in a hot car just to save a few cent's...















get a smaller car is the answer...
