Is there a reason my turbo timer has a wire that goes to the handbrake switch?

It just has a wire joined to one of the ones for the handbrake switch (which makes the light on the dash come on) with a tap connector.















Why would the turbo timer need to know if the handbrake is on?

my guess its to prevent the turbo from spooling up and detonating when the handbrake is engaged

The previous owner may have wired it so that the turbo timer will only activate if the handbrake is set. As most people only set the handbrake when they leave the car in neutral, and are getting out, this ensures that you are not leaving the car in gear, and setting the turbo timer.

To open the waste gate and let all the exhaust come out instead of letting your turbo pointlessly spool and overheat your car. Its a very clever idea and keeps your car from overheating at idiling.
