how to remove a rotor for a 2001 toyota camry?

there is a special nut threaded onto the receiver, how do i remove the nut?

If it is like other Toyotas of that era it is only held on by those two #3 phillips head screws. That big nut holds the axle in, and it is an unholy beast to get off without air tools. You don't need to touch it to remove the rotor.

ok - jack up the car - put safety stands under it , remove tire , remove brake caliper , check the rotor to see if there are phillips head screws showing ( a lot of times these screws are not there and you just have two holes in the flat of the rotor ) - the same area as the wheel studs come thru.next you will probably have to give the rotor a couple good hard hits from behind to pop it off the hub. the factory rotors fit very snug and a little rust and dirt can make removing them more of a challenge.

4-5 21mm lug nuts ( tire )

one 14mm socket or wrench (brake caliper, lower pin)

lift it up and slide the whole caliper off, towards the engine

remove caliper bracket, two 17mm nut

now try to remove the rotor, if it's stuck spray some rust remover.

still stuck, you can try a RUBBER mallet and bang on it till it comes loose.

unless you gonna replace the rotor, just bang on it with anything till it comes off.

clean the rust off and install new.

the special big nut is for the axle and does not need to be remove to get rotor off.
