Before buying, have you checked for recalls on the Tacoma?
Toyota recalls ( steering, stalling, fuel tank,etc.) have continued right up until a week or so ago for several models in that age range. There were, of course, significant and well-publicized Toyota recalls earlier this year which totalled over ten million vehicles.
Because of Toyota's policy of contacting owners only by last known address, there are many Toyota vehicles still on the road that have missed being recalled and repaired for serious safety issues such as brakes, steering, acceleration, drive shaft, stalling, etc.. So check to see if this particular vehicle was reached.
Also, the resale value of Toyota products has dropped between 12% and 20% this year, in both Canada and the U.S.
