Does a '93 JDM Supra not have a MAF sensor?

Default Does a '93 JDM Supra not have a MAF sensor?
Bought an Injen Short Ram Intake only to find that during installation, There was no typical looking MAF, even my private mechanic couldn't find one anywhere. All we could see was this Sensor that looks like an O2 sensor. It plugs into the intake system directly behind the Air Filter...other than that, i took the entire stock intake system out and there was definitely no MAF sensor, not even housing for one. Can anyone confirm this and help me out? Should I just unplug the sensor that i see? because there is no location on the new intake system for it to go onto.

The sensor you mention is probably the IAT or intake air temp sensor and yes it needs to be mounted in the intake stream. If it is mounted outside or unplugged the ECM won't know the true IAT and won't be able to supply the correct AFR. This means drilling a hole in the new intake and installing the sensor however necessary (bung, rubber grommet, etc) so that it is air tight.































You probably have a speed-density EFI setup that uses the intake manifold pressure (via the MAP sensor) and the intake temperature (via the IAT sensor) along with the known volumetric efficiency (VE)% (found in the lab while designing the engine system) to calculate how much air is entering the cylinders.































Be aware that pretty much all mods to the system after the throttle body such as a cam swap, port and polish, or high flow exhaust will change the engine's VE and make the fueling table in the ECM incorrect. This can be fixed by reprogramming the tables in the ECM.
