You need to have a special sniffer instrument to put next to the connections and "sniff out" leaks. another thing i think an a/c shop can do is put some dye in the charge and then watch to see where the dye is coming out (over days). Another thing is that there is refrigerant oil in the system. If you can look around at the pipes and connections and at the compressor and you see oil residue - that is most likely where the leak is. Of course the leak could be inside the a/c box where you cant see it or get at it. The sniffer should find that one.
