is it possible to convert a 2000 celica from an automatic transmission to a standard? and how much would it cost?
well the celica gt is a 1zz-fe engine so would a transmission from a celica gts with a 2zz-fe engine fit? or is there a peticular transmission for the 1zz-fe?
You can bet it would be a waste of $. You better off buying another 2000 celica with a manual after selling yours unless you have spent alot of $ on your car I would bother. If its for better acceleration you can always get a shift kit done to it. But, if you want for control with clutch and deciding you own gear changes go ahead. Take it to a transmission specialist. Most auto specialist do manuals do they just specialist in autos which a more compilcated than a manual.
Yes it's possible,I've even done it,on 1 of my antique cars, but unless u can do it yourself, it isn't economically feasible.I had a wrecked standard that a friend gave me,to scavenge my parts from.
These kinds of swaps are never cheap and require a lot of parts. Some Chassis are specifically made for Automatic or Manual. So then you have to fab parts and try to get the factory Geometry. A pain in the butt at best. An absolute nightmare at worst.
Even if you have a Donor Car to scavenge parts from, it's still a very tall order.
It's almost never worth it in the end. Join a big Car Forum and see how many failed attempts at this are.
I believe the Transmission is the same for both Engines.
This might come in handy, I found it a while ago and it is invaluable if you do any work for yourself. It is the actual Toyota Gen 7 shop manual with 1800+ pages in a two part PDF file.
