this is a pretty crappy question, as you havent told us which engine is in your runner.
if its a 3 litre v6 which I'm assuming it is, then the valves need to be shimmed up and measured correctly.
why on earth not get him to fix his mistake?
bring that ticking time bomb back to him, unless you really feel like replacing the entire engine.
Your engine uses different selections of shims, they're basically very thin circles of metal that keep the clearances in spec.
with a different head, or work done to the engine, the clearancees need to be measured, and the correct shims ordered from Toyota and installed correctly.
I'd bring your runner right back to this clown.
or bring it to toyota, have them shim the valves correctly, and with the right tools then, send this old boy the bill.
