Regular (87 octane) only. Strange as it may seem, using a higher grade usually causes the check engine light to come on until the computer adjusts, then causes it to come on again for a while when you switch back to regular. I don't know what codes are responsible. Anyway, regular unleaded.































I recommend top tier gasoline for all modern cars. Some brands are as inexpensive as any low detergency gasoline brands.

The MIL codes from using too high of an octane rating are the P030x codes AKA the misfire detected codes. The '01-'09 Prius has a 13:1 expansion ratio but a lower compression ratio due to the Atkinson/Miller cycle intake valve timing. Low compression engines have issues with high octane fuel and vice versa.

I have a 2008 prius bought new. For that year at least u buy regular.































U need to get a prius manual there are many differences from conventional cars. Some of those differences can get u into a lot of trouble (spelled $$$).
