Default Does the 2002 Toyota Solara have a chip in the key?
I have a good key and I was thinking of going to get just a cheap copy of it made. Does anyone know if there is a chip in the key that will keep the new key from starting the car?

Yes it does have a chip in it, and it will not work without a chip. My 1999 Solara had a chip in it, so I am sure your 2002 must have one as well. A chip key could be made by a Toyota dealer but it will cost much more than an ordinary key to get one.

Any automotive locksmith can make the key and program it. Usually cheaper than the dealer.
