if its an actual steel oil filter, a band wrench or a special filter cup will work. they sell them at pep boys. if its an internal (canister) filter with a plastic or metal cover over the filter element, then youll still need the filter cup, but some have a bolt head looking thing on the cover. a 15/16" socket works for most. either way, pep boys has the tool. I work at an oil change garage, and thats where we buy all our filter wrenches/cups
