2010 toyota matrix, key is staying in ignition, can't get it out also when key is placed in ignition, I cannot turn the key to start

You may have to get it towed to the dealer. They will pay for the tow, but call them first

Your key lock switch is broken. Ford had this problem about 10 years ago on the Focus and has long ago fixed it. It is the result of poor quality, particularly on a new 2010 Toyota, and there is no excuse for this to happen. It simply means that the ignition switch does not recognize the key, has malfunctioned and the key can not be removed or turned to start the car. Good luck. It may need to be towed.

Make sure your steering wheel is not locked, try turning it and turning the key at the same time.

Is your steering wheel locked? Is the gear shift in park? (applies for automatic)
