does a missing oil cap cause the check engine light to turn on?(2001 toyota tacoma 5VZ-FE)?

Default does a missing oil cap cause the check engine light to turn on?(2001 toyota tacoma 5VZ-FE)?
the check engine light turned on so i poped the hood to see the oil cap was missing i replaced it now but the engine light didn't turn off for about 20 min of driving but it is off now but i was wondering if that would even cause it to turn on or was it something else that could still be wrong with my engine

Yes it would; shows up as a vacuum leak, not unlike a missing or loose gas cap.

That's odd all right. I can't think of any codes that the missing oil cap would produce (evap codes are for the fuel system, where the vapors are carefully controlled) even though controlling crankcase emissions are the oldest emission control. There just aren't any sensors for it.































Time will tell, I guess.
