If it makes only a clicking sound when you turn the key then your starter contacts are worn and or stuck. These are the electrical contacts that engage the starter. They are very cheap the replace.
If not that then check to make sure the car is properly in park or neutral. If the gear selector is out of place it will not let you start the car.
