Are base-model Supra gaskets compatible with the turbo model engine?

I bought a 1990 Toyota Supra with a base-model engine. I originally intended on keeping it stock and bought new gaskets. Before installment, I got the car painted. Along came a great price on a Supra turbo engine (7MGTE; I've got 7MGE I believe) and I had to have it. It has been too long to return the gaskets so I was wondering if maybe the base engine gasket is compatible with the turbo engine...Thanks

Sorry but no they aren't compatible with that engine.

Depends on the Gasket.

Things like the Water Pump, Oil Covers, etc. should be the same.

Things like Exhaust Manifold, possibly the Head Gaskets should be different.

Congrats on the 7MGTE! Awesome motors! If everything lines up, there shouldn't be a problem with using base model gaskets.

The head gaskets are most likely identical for the turbo (7M-GTE) and non-turbo (7M-GE) engines. You should confirm with the auto parts supplier that you purchased the original set from. (The one I purchased from Fel-Pro are for either engine.)

It is important to properly torque the head if/when you replace the head gasket. A sure-fire way to successfully torque the head is to seat the 14 head bolts up to about 20 ft-lbs in the proper order. Continue to increase the torque slowly - by 5 ft-lbs per pass, continuing to follow the proper torquing sequence up to the maximum of 58 ft-lbs. It takes a little longer, but ensures the head is properly torqued. It also eliminates the need to re-torque the head (which is a BIG job for this engine).
