New mass airflow sensor (MAS) no better than old one.?
2002 Toyota Rav4, 60K original miles, AT, 4 Cyl.
I sprayed carb cleaner into air intake (after filter), not realizing it'd mess up the MAS.
((Don't worry--will NEVER happen again. I'm an old guy used to old cars.))
I was getting around 30 mpg hiway, but then after spraying, it reduced to only 20. So I bought new MAS, but it didn't change anything, still only got 20+ mpg hiway. I kept old one, took new one back since it didn't change anything. Now at least with old MAS I'm getting up to 25 mpg hiway."Check Engine Light" has never come on.
Does the MAS need to be reset or recalibrated? I doubt a normal tuneup would accomplish anything.
I'd hate to take to Toyota dealer to pay those high bucks for a system check, but if needed, I guess it's needed.
I'd appreciate any help with this. I'd really like to get car back up to former mpg's. Thanks.
