Has anyone else had this problem with their Toyota?

I just bought my 2010 toyota corolla type s about a week ago and i have put abut 500 miles on it. i am having a huge problem with gas mileage i filled up my tank with chevron gas like i did my old car on saturday and its already at a quarter to empty. Aren't toyotas supposed to be good on gas? if you have any ideas on what it could be or if it has happened to you please let me know... thank you

It needs to be broken in if it had no mileage on it when you bought it. All cars consume much more gas until the engine is broken in...500 miles is not enough. It should get better after 1000, and not reach its best mileage until about 3 to 4 thousand.... Even tho the dealer or booklet may tell you otherwise. You must drive it carefully at this time, slow and easy accelerations so the engine can get loosened up. The first few tanks of gas will always go faster on a brand new car. good luck.

It all depends on how much driving you did.

I mean really you just put 500 Miles on a car in less than a week. That's a lot of driving.

How much gas you use isn't determined by how many days go by, but by how far you drive.

Also the Motors don't need to be broken in anymore. They do that at the Factory these days. 30 years ago, yes you needed to brake in the motor. But not on any new cars.
