Default My 1991 Toyota 4runner's ( check engine light ) is staying on. Is there a cheap home remedy to find
out the? Is there a way to find the codes without buying a meter? Some cars will show them on the dash I heard? It's 3 months over due for a smog certificate and I have no money to buy a meter..

Go to autozone or pepboys and ask them if they have an obd1 scanner. No clue if they have them but they'll give you the codes for free. Not that you can fix it yourself...

A common problem is the oxygen sensor. I recommend you to buy a can of seafoam to clean up all the carbon build up. Go to seafoam.com and follow the instruction how to use it. You will see an instant result on performance. The check engine light may go away as well.
