Default How much can a 2000 toyota celica gts tow?
I have around a 1200 pound boat I'd like to tow up a relatively steep hill to get to the lake that's about 15 minutes away. It's a mountain drive with a very steep grade at one point. It's fine getting up it but a gas guzzler. Could a 2000 celica do it? I can install a trailer hitch for about $140 bucks and if so it'd be awesome if I can pull the boat up there without worry of putting the strain of a thousand miles on an axle every time I do it.

Is the boat and trailer gross weight 120 pounds? If so, your Celica should be fine with it. I wouldn't go over about 300 pounds, personally.

The formula for ANY vehicle is..... 10x the rated engine horse power,less the vehicle weight,the answer is the weight that vehicle can safely tow without hurting the engine or vehicle. You can tow more than that weight, but you will be abusing the vehicle.















There are many formulas for all applications.

Yeah...you'll die trying this. Darwin award to follow. Not the towing weight but the steep grade...HORRENDOUS idea. If it doesn't kill you it will murder your transmission.

the max towing capacity for the celica is 907Kg. also please look at your manual for towing information. if this is the automatic avoid drivimg in L/L2/2 gears for UPHILL climbing and leave in normal D driving mode to avoid tranny damage. you can turn off overdrive or drop in to L2 on the downhill drive for engine braking.

So I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra V8.... the engine is rated at 300hp... and the truck weighs 4000 pounds.... according to your "formula" for any vehicle... my truck can tow 2000 pounds? Because Toyota and the owners manual suggests 6000
