There are a number of things that you should check before you try to start the engine again...
First, check to see if you have oil in the engine coolant or coolant in the oil. This would be an immediate indicator that you have a blown head gasket. There would be an oily film in the coolant overflow bottle or inside the radiator, and the oil may have a foamy film on top of it.
Second, check the compression on all the cylinders to see if there are any lower than the others. They should all be in the 150-210 psi range.
Third, take out your spark plugs and inspect them to see if they are wet from coolant or oil. They could also have a carbon build-up on them.
Any or all of the above indicators, would tell you that the engine should be rebuilt or replaced. When it is over-heated, the head from this engine is also inclined to develop cracks between the valve seats. This would increase the cost of rebuild to the point where you may be better finding a replacement engine.
Good luck. Let us know what you decide and the results.
