I just replaced the gearbox for my 93 Toyota Paseo and also put a new Clutch, but I can't change the gear from 1->2 and 2->3 easily; specially when the engine is not warm. Also have problem to reduce the car speed by putting to High gear from 2->1 or 3->2. The mechanic is kinda dumb and he doesn't know what's wrong....

Please let me know to solve the problem, I appreciate that.

Because it's new.

You have to break it in.

could be the clutch adjustment, it mightn't be engaging enough making it hard to change gears.

your best not to use 2 to 1 to slow down with, it isn't good at all for the box and is very hard on the clutch because you have to slip it. you are best to let your speed drop down enough so you can just slip in. in saying that cars are all geared different and what works in your car might not work in mine. i would steer towards clutch adjustment though for the hard changing.

Check the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder for leaks at their boots.
