How much weight can the trunk of my 1998 camry safely hold?

Default How much weight can the trunk of my 1998 camry safely hold?
Im traveling approx. 700 miles with many items. My question is how much weight can I put in the trunk without overloading it? I have done a trial load and the back tires were rubbing, so I have to reload. Should I put the heavier things in the back seat and the lighter things in the trunk? Im worried about my back tires.

Yes definitely put as many of the heavy items in the back seat and as close to the front as possible. Avoid putting heavy items in the very back of the trunk as this is where there is the most leverage on the rear suspension. You should be able to load the car with 500 lbs safely but make sure it's well centred in what would be the passenger compartment.
