When they put it on the alignment rack, the machine will show all 4 readings no matter what anyway. They only charge for a 4 wheel instead of a front wheel if they have to actually adjust the rear. If the rear is out, you can decide at that time if you want a front only, or a 4 wheel alignment. If the rear IS out, I would definatly have them align it.
At my shop, nobody asks for a 4 wheel alignment. They all know there going to pay for a front wheel with the possibility of paying for a 4 wheel. Once it's on the rack and we have the readings and the rear is out, we then call the customer to get authorization to adjust the rear and tack on the extra charge. Sometimes they accept, and sometimes they decline and we only adjust the front.
If the customer states he wants a 4 wheel, we don't charge them for one unless we actually have to adjust the rear.
Hope this makes sense.
