would putting a performance chip on my 97 corolla 1.6 cause any problems?

im sick of the weeny-ness of my car. its just sad. i was curious if adding an SLR chip to my car would end up tearing things up with it. i know it may add a little bit of power but will that be enough to just start breaking things? that and can the engine handle it? the car its self has about 153000 miles on it. its the 1.6L engine with 5 speed. any suggestions or advice is welcome

are parts gonna start wearing out faster? i mean the car is old. only mods ive done are a short ram intake and performance plugs and wires

I went to the web site and have to say it's a scam. I'm not saying it wont boost your performance at all but they are saying 50+ horsepower, thats a bunch of bull. The price isn't bad, even if it does half of what they say. I've used Hyper-Tech & Jet performance chips in the past with decent results but no chip can do all of what they are claiming. Your car should be able to handle it.

The claim of this chip is absolutely bogus to me. If anything, the chip itself would provide a more aggressive fuel map, ignition, and timing, but nowhere near 50+hp IMO. A toyota engine at 150k should be showing some signs of age, but adding this chip isn't going to grenade it. You're better off leaving it the way it is, instead of trying to squeeze more horses out of it. Not saying it can't be done, but it's not like you'd be adding much resale value to it.
