This is a complex system, involving sensors all over, and an"Ignition Disable Function" Trust me on this one. Take your car to a Toyota Dealer. They can disable it, and you'll be "alarmless", or they can instruct you on how to properly turn it off, and be able to activate it, if you're in a situation where an alarm could prevent theft. Get a copy in writing explaining the different procedures to follow. Don't do like I did and tell myself " oh, yea, I'll remember all that". even draw a rough diagram or have them do it. They probably won't charge you. It's a good idea when you first arrive at the dealer, don't go straight to the service area. Be a shopper.
Have a salesman wait on you and tell them you'll be trading in the future (which is not lying). Bring up the alarm problem with the salesman as, "By the way, while I'm here, I want to talk to someone about my car alarm. Once they think you're a potential customer, It opens a lot of doors, admittance free.
