2000 Toyota 4Runner Automatic Transmission problem?
I was driving on the freeway 3 months ago on a downhill slope. Traffic wasn't bad it was moving along well really. When all of a sudden I hit the throttle a bit and the engine didn't seem to respond I heard, saw and felt my RPMs move higher without acceleration. I exited off to a gas station and parked there.
The problem is that the transmission will NOT engage. L, 2nd, D, or R. Nothing.
The engine is running, yes, but for some reason the power will not transfer to the rear wheels.
My father and I have checked the fluid and have drained and refilled, even changed the filter. Anyone have an explanation? Any good-minded feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
On a side note, in case anyone is wondering how I exited off the freeway, it was a good thing that I was on a downhill slope. I used inertia to bring the vehicle into the gas station.
Thanks for the feedback, but I'm not going to the dealer and spend loads of money for labor and part sunless I know the exact problem which I'm trying to find out. If it's not major then it can be done without paying someone to do it.
The shifter is fine, you can see the lever moving on the underside. The car however is not.
