I'm pretty sure you did. I just went through this with my daughter's 1993 Accord with her husband driving. It turned out the oil warning light was burned out.
You don't mention make, model, or year. If it is very old this is the time to replace the car. If it is less than ten years old a replacement engine is the best way to go. The conventional wisdom is that an engine that has seized from oil starvation is junk. The damage is widespread and deep.
My daughter's Accord is a 1993 but they needed it to last for another few months. I sighed and removed the oil pan, where I found about an ounce of golden metal chips, slivers, and foil. That was the remains of the rod bearings. To my amazement the crankshaft was okay and in the end I just put in the lower halves of the main bearings, polished the remains of the old rod bearings off the journals, put new rod bearings in (the clearance measured within specs on all of them) and reassembled. The compression is abominable because the rings seized against the cylinders but it is still on the road two months later. I would never ask a professional to do such a "meatball" job but if you have a really good friend who has worked inside engines before this is also a possibility.
