This car has 180.000 on the clock (kilometres) have always been told that "hilux... indestructible; your car will live forever" but will it?
i definitely havent had and problems with the engine for the 2 years i have owned it, just the crap around the engine going haywire ( fuel pump, carby, carbon filter clogged) other then that it drives like a tank
my question mainly comes down to what things i should look out for seeing as it has pretty much reached its half way k's?
also ive been told that you should only use Toytota coolant for toyota cars because it does not eat away the rubber seals. Does this apply for older model cars before their tests?
i've seen plenty of 22r's that have had over 300k miles , and i don't think i have any have used toyota coolant, nor have i in either of my 22rs , i think this is only for newer engens , and possibly just marketing scam
some new radiators and materials can react adversely when using a typical over the counter anti freeze. special coolants maybe required. not yours.
where toyota gets there fame in durability, IMO, is in there use of ASIN components. they are ranked right up there with heavy duty after market items. better in most cases. your hubs are a good example. they are just frickin' expensive to replace and most opt for warn hubs. but you will go through warn hub faster than ASIN hubs.
the 22r is already being noted as one of the more reliable motors made.
