Now that Toyota-gate is about a year old...?

What is your opinion, now that additional facts have presented themselves, of the whole Toyota phantom acceleration thing? Basically there are three parties I see.

1) Toyota never had any problems 100% drivers fault every time.

2) Toyota was trying the fix some problems that existed, but didn't move quickly enough.

3) Toyota knowingly concealed a very dangerous problem with their acceleration pedals that resulted in over 30 deaths.

Your thoughts? Thank you.

All car makes have had run away acceleration problems at one time or another. In the case of Audi it did turn out that people were mixing up the gas and brake pedals. The company was nearly ruined before it was proven.

1966 Chevy's would run away when the engine mounts broke, and the recall fix was to add a cable tie between the engine and frame. When the engines were removed for rebuilding these cables were frequently left off. I saw one of those old Chevies go through the window of a liquor store.

I can't picture not turning the key off if the car is not acting right, I have practiced this and it takes 1 1/2 seconds to get the car out of gear and the key off. So the answer is number 1.

Call it 1.05. There were some incidents that apparently were due to TPS not returning from the depressed position, but they were very few. All the incidents that involved runaways, where the brakes were ineffective while the engine was running away, were driver errors. If not, we would logically have seen literally millions more brake failures with a few uncontrollable runaways embedded among them, and far more controlled runaways without brake failure.

And they have been forced to recall 39% of all they made in those TWELVE (not one) years.

It will take at least ten years to reverse those TWELVE years of troubles and cover ups.
