my 1985 toyota pickup truck wont start unless pushed?

i changed the battery and the starter and all i get is a clicking or one turn over and then it tries again. i connected a switch to the starter and it tries but wont go I'm out of ideas

you should try to clean the sparking plug or the admission in carburetor (try to clean the filters)

Change the + cable to the starter and make sure the - cable is good too.Lack of power if it trying to turn over.

If you've already changed the battery and starter I would look at the voltage regulator and maybe even the alternator(although that's unlikely I would still want to rule it out). Have you checked to make sure you're getting a good connection? I once had trouble like this and found out the cable connected to the alternator was fubar.

Check all the connections between the battery and your starter make sure they are all clean with little corrosion (rust).

If your engine barely turns over or can only turn over once then its a problem with the starter, don't worry about your spark plugs or carburator as one person suggested, this has nothing to do with getting the car to turn over.
