Most engines do not have clearance in the combustion area for the top of the pistons at TDC (Top Dead Center) with the valves open. Normally there's never a time when the piston would be all the way up with the valves open, so there's no reason for them to be designed that way. There's no way to say for sure without a qualified Toyota engineer or mechanic saying one way or the other, but personally if you can't get a definitive answer from a QUALIFIED Toyota person, I'd check all the valves. By the way, I don't consider someone telling me on here that they are qualified to make it so.

so you're safe. replace the belt and have a nice day.















though it wont be as easy as you think. do your water pump as well.even if it's good. once you get into it, you will realize you don't want to do it again for some time. been there, done this on mine.

uh, Kenneth, (and this is the first time i've had to point fingers at someone)















i wouldn't suggest to ppl that they need to tear down their motor just because *you* are unsure or can't verify an issue and at the same time try to discredit any input from others. that's not helping anyone. especially the OP.















and you're theories about why engines don't need valve clearances when T-belts/chains fail aren't correct.
