Default 2010 rav4 4wd questions?
-i have a 2010 rav4 with 4wd (base model)















-how do i turn on the 4wd















i read somewhere that the rav4 is always in 4wd mode and cant be turned on or off, but on the panel there is a light for 4wd and its never on. i see it when i first turn the ignition and all the lights flash on































-also there's a button that says "lock"...what does that do?















and also what is the "trac on and off" button do.















and should i have them on or off

The 4WD system on the Toyota Rav4 is an on-demand system. It can transfer up to 45 percent to the rear wheels when the front slips or during acceleration. It uses an electronic viscous coupling that transfers the power. You can also lock it in via a button on the dash but it reverts back to front wheel drive at 25 MPH. It's great for on road but would not want to do any heavy offroading.































Toyota uses this system to optimize fuel economy.































The TRAC on/off button just turns off the traction control system. This is really a preference if you want it on or not. It's not really going to make a huge difference with the 4WD model because if your vehicle starts to slip the 4WD system will kick in instead of the TRAC.

The Lock Button Turns on 4WD, in normal driving conditions, the 4WD will turn on and off when needed. "Trac" means traction control, bascially it's what you turn ON when you're just driving around in case of an emergency (Unless you're Lewis Hamilton, but in that case, Why would you be driving a RAV4?). When going offroading it helps to turn traction control off because it gives you more control at low speeds.
