The 3000 GT will be as deep of a money pit as the Supra, unless it has maybe less than 25,000 miles and was driven by a 90 year-old female with a 3 oz right foot (not likely). Any used sports car not owned by an anal retentive car freak who has cardiac arrest whenever a bird poops on his windshield will almost always be worn out to the point where major mechanicals are needed.
If you wrench on your car yourself (not likely, as you are here seeking advice for openers) you have to weigh your priorities. Do you depend on the Supra to earn a paycheck and/or take you to class, or is it a weekend plaything that spends six days a week in your garage? If this is your daily driver you probably want to consider getting something slow and reliable.
