Must admit not familiar with the Toyota but I would guess that your Toyota would have a "common rail" injection system This basicaly means that you dont have an injection pump in the old sense of the word, you have a high pressure pump that super pressurises the fuel and the distribution is then taken care of by electronics. Hense the sensers and switchgear on the injection system.
when it does go wrong you are in sh1t street ! Parts are expensive on any modern c/rail set up but nowadays reliability is good. All modern diesel systems will be like this for reasons of efficiency,economy and emissions
