What happens if i put 89 Octane on a Toyota Corolla?

are there any dangers with that?

i put 89 and it seemed to last longer

But someone told me the engine wont last as long?

you can use 89 but it doesnt make one difference, but if you go higher like 91 or 93 your gas milage will go down

Putting 89 octane fuel in your Corolla isn't going to hurt anything.

Your perception that the car got better gas mileage on 89 octane fuel as opposed to 87 is just that - a perception. In reality the car isn't going to get any better mileage on 89 octane fuel as opposed to 87 octane if you objectively compare the two fuels and your mileage results long-term. You'll just be paying more at the pump for the 89 octane in most cases.

Technically, your mileage should have actually decreased. Higher octane in gasoline is obtained by an additive that slows the flammability of the fuel that is formulated for use in higher compression, higher performance engines. In these engines, the high compression could otherwise cause premature detonation from the compression alone before the spark even occurs causing "pinging/knocking" and possible engine damage if regular is used. Your Corolla is designed for plain old regular. By running a higher octane, lower flammability fuel in it, you should have gotten lower fuel economy and lower performance (although it would be difficult to feel). You are at best wasting money and at worst, causing carbon build up due to incomplete combustion.
