Is it a scamm for toyota dealer to push a lojack for a LPrius?

I was paying for the car when the salesman started to talk about how the Prius is being stolen for parts. I took him at his word and paid for a lojack system which I now realize I do not need. You cannot hot wire a Prius. I called the dealer and the person in the complaint dept. agreed you would need and flatbed truck and a helicopter but that he had to would have to take it upstairs to get my money back. Should I even be in this situation? Isn't it dishonest and a scam to scare me into buying it?

Yeah, that's pretty bad. Car salesmen have a bad reputation for a reason. I'm not sure what the laws are in your state or when the contract was signed, but here in Arizona there is a three day buyer's remorse period in which the contract can be be canceled by the buyer. If that is open to you (calling the state DA's office will get you the straight scoop) just cancel the contract. They will either see it your way or you are better off being out of there. If you don't have that option, getting loud about it in earshot of the sales floor tends to get attention. The other salescritters don't want you scaring away the fish.

You can't hot-wire a Prius because there is no starter motor. The Prius can be stolen in three ways:

1. Use a flatbed.

2. Steal the fob.

3. Carjacking.

Theoretically you can use a computer to crack the security codes, but my guess is that if you have enough smarts and a good enough computer, you already have a job and it isn't car theft.

In addition, the professional thieves go after high ticket cars of $50K or more.
