Two years ago, I had a Toyota Corona from the mid eighties. Your pickup might have the same engine. On cold mornings, my Corona needed six pumps of the accelerator before I began cranking. As a licensed motor mechanic I know that most cars would "hate" this and would flood.
If your pickup is fuel injected, please disregard this.
P.S. Make sure your spark plug gap is no less than 40 thou (1mm). Happy motoring.
