How do you get more mpg on a vehicle?

If a Toyota Prius has 51/48 estimated mpg, if you can get more, how do you get more?

(Owner of a brand new 2011 Toyota Prius I bought on Saturday, I only get 43 mpg)

Should I drive it on the highway for better mpg?

So far the car is great. The interior looks good, but the materials are cheap. Its fun to drive, and has good cargo room.

Just forget about Alan. I'm never talking to him again.

keep your foot steady on the gas, it's easier on the highway where you maintain your speed more. cruise control works too

the biggest thing is when u accelerate from 0, youd be surprised how fast gas burns up if u rev it up to 3 everytime, compared to a slower start.

It says everywhere that if you drive 70 and up, you get less mpg compared to 60, but i dont believe that. My avalon gets 30mpg regardless if i cruise at 65 or jump around between 70 and 85. Basically if you ever aim to get 51/48mpg, thats not going to happen downtown or where you encounter lots of stop signs or traffic lights

Your car should get better fuel mileage after the engine is broke in. The fuel mileage is usually worse at first, due to the engine being tight.

How do you get more mpg on a vehicle?
